Packing for a holiday is fun – in theory. What could possibly go wrong, right? That is until you’re about 20 minutes in and you’ve surrounded yourself with a pyramid of ‘maybe’ clothes and a stack of toiletries that could rival an entire aisle in your local supermarket. To help you become a packing pro, forget all the just-in-case items and make sure you’ve got these often-overlooked items in your suitcase and hand luggage:
Holiday essentials for your suitcase
SPF sun tan lotion to stay protected by the pool
So, we’re assuming you’re going somewhere sunny and glorious on your travels. Don’t leave home without sun tan lotion. If you forget, you can always get it from the airport or an overpriced local pharmacy – but why risk it?
Stripped back ‘desert island’ makeup kit
It can be tempting to pack all the palettes (you know, just in case you need 5 shades of grey eyeshadow) and every lipstick shade known to man, but stop. And think – if you were stuck on a desert island, what would you pack? Start with these essentials. Think waterproof mascara (to avoid panda eyes), BB cream, bronzer, highlighter and eyeliner.
A summer scent, obvs
The easiest way to bottle up those summer memories and recall on them for years to come is to invest in a brand-new scent. Every time you spritz it, it’ll remind you of all of those stunning sunsets, lazy beach days and breath-taking sights. If you fancy something a bit lighter on the skin, try a refreshing body mist.
Hydrating moisturiser for when the sun goes down
All that dipping in the pool, sea and extra sweat under the strong rays does wonder for the mind, but not so much for the body – we’re talking about your skin. Replenish the moisture you’re bound to lose throughout the day with a moisturising after sun or nourishing body butter.
Mix & match clothes
If your luggage restriction is getting in the way of your pre-planned grid goals, then try not to pack a different outfit for every day/occasion/hour. Instead, pick a finely curated selection of mix and match basics that can be dressed up and down.
Holiday essentials for your hand luggage
So, you’ve got limited space and liquid limitations? Plus you need all the vital stuff too, so you can actually board the plane – there’s no use having 5 packs of chewing gum but no boarding pass! Here’s a mini checklist to help you keep things in order:
Other important travel docs (eg. insurance, injections info)
Mini hand cream, to help you keep skin hydrated
Travel atomiser/miniature, to top-up while you're in the sky
Chewing gum/sweets, to avoid blocked ears
