Jimmy Choo is without a doubt the accessory extraordinaire of the fashion industry. Famed for creating the most coveted shoes in the world, and of course luxuriously fresh Jimmy Choo perfume, there is a very good reason Choo became the darlin' of Hollywood!
As part of our ‘Behind The Scent’s' series, we’re taking a look at the rise of Jimmy Choo, his global brand and the fragrances that we adore.
The Early Years
Born in Malaysia in 1948, Choo started learning his craft from a very early age. Watching his shoe cobbler dad for hours and hours, Choo made his very first pair of shoes at just 11 years old – and the rest they say, is history!
Choo made his way to England in the early 1980s to study and after graduating with honours, he opened his first store in East London in 1986. It didn’t take long for his reputation to grow; within two years of opening his first shop, Choo and his shoes were given an 8-page spread in none other than Vogue magazine. Choo was propelled into celebrity status, dressing A-listers and royalty alike; Princess Diana went everywhere in her Jimmy Choo’s!
Jimmy Choo Goes Global
In 1996, Choo partnered with Tamara Mellon, British Vogue’s accessory editor, and with her vision and inside connections Jimmy Choo went global. Opening stores around the world including LA, Paris and in New York, Jimmy Choo had been put on the map… but not everything was blossoming behind closed doors!
Choo believed that 'bigger isn't necessarily better' and he missed the days where he handcrafted fine women's shoes for selected clientele, so in 2001 he sold his half of the brand for £24 million!
Today, Choo resides in London with his family, where on occasions he will be found imparting his legendary wisdom to a select number of next generation designers. He did ensure that his legacy lived on with the brand, however, as his niece Sandra Choi remains Creative Director at Jimmy Choo.
Jimmy Choo Fragrances
As part of the expansion of the brand, spearheaded by fashion focused Mellon, Jimmy Choo added highly desirable fragrance to their portfolio. Below is just a small selection of sensory sensations that have come from the high-end fashion house:
Jimmy Choo Original (2011)
As first fragrances go, Jimmy Choo Original is up there with one of the most memorable. Its blends a delicious combination of pear nectar and creamy toffee with a base of mesmerising patchouli. No wonder 8 years after it was first released it's still one of their very best!
Embodying the thrill of dressing up and sashaying down the red carpet, the second feminine fragrance from Jimmy Choo was Flash. Described as 'the latest must-have accessory for women', Flash is comprised of spicy pink pepper, juicy strawberry, fresh jasmine and sensual white woody notes.
Jimmy Choo for Men (2014)
In 2014, it was the turn of the men to be in for an olfactory treat with the release of Jimmy Choo for Men. Everything about this scent shouts masculinity from the old hip flask inspired bottle to the intense aromatic and woody notes that awaits on the inside.
Effortlessly sexy and completely addictive, Jimmy Choo unveiled Fever in 2018. Flirting between the lines of floral and gourmand, the wearer leaves a seductive trail of black plum nectar, jasmine and Tonka wherever she goes.
Jimmy Choo Man Blue (2018)
Starting a new chapter for the Jimmy Choo man, their latest fragrance, Jimmy Choo Man Blue, is the epitome of laid-back luxury. The leathery and aromatic notes boast a beautiful balance between freshness and refined texture.
Jimmy Choo Urban Hero (2019)
Starting a new chapter for the Jimmy Choo man, their latest fragrance, Jimmy Choo Urban Hero, is an ode to the mysterious and confident man. This woody aromatic Eau de Parfum is inspired by the urban environment. The dry down combines the urban elegance of grey amber with a note of leather for just a hint of rebellion.
