Words: Emily Venables
Honey has been used for thousands of years to add a touch of natural sweetness to our lives. In fragrances, it is often associated with being overly sweet; however, it has so much more depth than people often realise. Its earthy richness is warm and comforting and lucky for us, this luxurious ingredient features in many of our scents available at The Perfume Shop.
1. Honey by Marc Jacobs
One of the wonderful things about using honey in a fragrance is its wonderful ability to elevate other ingredients, especially florals and fruits. Honey by Marc Jacobs is the perfect example of this. The summery scent opens with vibrant fruits at the top before unleashing the sweet aroma of honeysuckle and apricot at the heart and honey and vanilla in the base. Honey by name, honey by nature indeed!
2. Scandal a Paris by Jean Paul Gaultier
Honey is silky, smooth, and luxurious and it was made to tempt you… just like Scandal a Paris by Jean Paul Gaultier! Addictive honey sits at the heart of this scent and perfectly blends with sensual jasmine to create an indulgent fragrance made for the night.
3. L’eau d’lssey Nectar d’lssey by Issey Miyake
Honey and flowers go hand in hand and Issey Miyake’s L’earu d’Lssey Nectar d’lessy effortlessy brings them together. Pear and honey combine with generous amounts of rose and creamy sandalwood to form a beautifully balanced aroma of some of the absolute best notes nature has to offer.
4. Safari by Ralph Lauren
Drawing on the spirit of freedom and discovery, Safari by Ralph Lauren encapsulates the aromas and romance of vast open spaces. Think natural scents such as grasses and florals all taken up a notch by the addition of sweet, sweet honey! A real cheerful fragrance, it brings together mandarin, daffodil, orchid, jasmine, rose, and honey with a smooth base of Tonka bean and patchouli to transport you on an adventure like no other.
5. Code for Women by Armani
Every once in a while, a fragrance comes along that commands attention wherever it is worn, Code for Women by Armani is one of them. It exudes confidence, with ultra-feminine orange blossom at its heart that is complemented by jasmine and a touch of honey either side. Its sensuality is soft yet alluring; it’s radiant without being overbearing; and its impression is forever lasting. Well done, Armani!
6. Burberry Weekend by Burberry
Burberry Weekend is a vivid and vibrant scent for him that features strong bursts of energetic citrus notes, but these are softened by honey and creamy amber to create a more subtle fragrance that can easily find a place in your everyday routine. Honey is not often found as the star of the show in a scent, but its qualities should never be underestimated!
7. Uomo by Roberto Cavalli
By now, any presumptions you had about honey being sickly sweet should have vanished. However, if you’re still undecided then Robert Cavailli’s Uomo should sway your thoughts! This bold and sophisticated fragrance for him has honey at its heart and it’s anything but sweet. A spray or two will unveil a sexy, confident fragrance with so much depth and volume you’ll be left wondering how they packed so much character into it!
8. L’Envol De Cartier by Cartier
Honey blends really well with spicy florals, such as orange blossom and ylang-ylang, and therefore has found a cosy home within the Oriental fragrance family. Within that family sits Cartier’s L’Envol de Cartier, a well-rounded and powerfully masculine scent that is the perfect example of complementing rich musky and powdery scents with the beauty of honey.
9. Man by Bvlgari
When you think of honey, you probably think of classic golden honey, we all know and love; however, Man by Bvlgari has utilised a lesser known variety - white honey. The scent is more subtle than other variations, but when partnered with vibrant top notes, sensual woody aromas, and a creamy, smooth base you have one honey-laced scent that wins top marks in our eyes!
10. For Him by Narciso Rodriguez
If you love the scent of rain on a breezy autumn day, then this is the fragrance for you. Three contrasting accords have been used to create a scent with rich, deep earthy qualities – a flower honey accord, amber light accord, and tactile woods accord. Flowers, honey, creaminess, and woody notes - this fragrance ticks all of our boxes!
