Summer is one of the best times of year to get romantic with a loved one. When the temperatures are soaring and everyone is outdoors or on holiday, it’s a time when you can temporarily step back from everyday life and get loved up with your partner. With that in mind, we’ve chosen some gorgeous ‘his and hers’ fragrances to suit different types of couples. Which one are you? (Hint: these make great wedding scents too!)
For committed, long-term partners:
These guys are in it for the long haul. They’ve done their time being messed around by the wrong people and experienced the rollercoaster of toxic romance, but now they’re happy and settled with each other. While they might enjoy socialising separately during the week, the weekend is when they like to chill together and hang out with a bottle of wine on the sofa. Burberry’s Burberry Touch fragrances for Women and Men evoke that sense of cosy intimacy. ‘For Her’ features soft notes of jasmine, peach, tuberose and vanilla, while ‘For Him’ is slightly more aromatic and spicy, mellowed with nutmeg and skin musks.
For newfound romance:
There’s nothing like a summer romance, when it feels like there’s electricity in the air and the intensity of the heat mirrors your feelings for your newfound sweetheart. This is perfectly captured by Jean Paul Gaultier’s two scents: La Belle and Le Beau. With its rich, intoxicating notes of tonka bean and coconut wood, Le Beau is as enticing and seductive as a secret rendezvous after sunset. While La Belle exudes coquettish charm, with a vibrant and luminous bouquet of green pear and bergamot, underscored with the warmth of vanilla.
For when opposites attract:
Whether it’s Ross and Rachel from Friends, or Sandy and Danny from Grease, there are some couples who seem totally different from each other but it somehow seems to work. Certain couples are like chalk and cheese, and don’t always understand each other’s outlook on life. But at the same time, they complement each other and balance out each other’s quirks and neuroses. Viktor and Rolf’s Flowerbomb and Spicebomb are great for this type of couple, both equally addictive in different ways: Flowerbomb entices with warm, floral notes of patchouli, Cattleya orchid and Centifolia rose; while Spicebomb is an enveloping fug of spices and woods.
For the modern power couple:
Few places are more romantic than Rome, we can all agree. Think Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck in Roman Holiday and you’re halfway there. Immaculately dressed and a love of all things glamorous, this couple work hard to enjoy the finer things in life – which includes visiting the world’s most beautiful cities – hence why Valentino’s Born In Roma is the perfect choice. The women’s scent Valentino Born In Roma Donna contains a generous amount of jasmine (one of the most seductive notes in perfumery), together with creamy vanilla, sharp blackcurrant and addictive Guaiacwood. While the men’s scent Valentino Born In Roma Uomo is woody and leathery, with rich notes of vetiver, clary sage and ginger essences.
For rebellious, non-conformist lovers
Gucci’s Guilty fragrances are for a couple that like breaking the rules together. These guys don’t believe in conformity or being restricted by labels and Guilty is the perfect embodiment of that. Gucci Guilty for Her defies gender stereotypes by featuring geranium – often used in men’s scents – brightened by lilac, mandarin and pink pepper. While Gucci Guilty for Him is fresh and dynamic, with herbal citrus notes of lavender and lemon, enhanced by earthy patchouli.
