It’s the big question on everyone’s mind: what will the 2020 perfume trends be? Well, we’re here to give you the lowdown. Gear up and be on top fragrance form with these emerging and long-standing trends…
CLIMATE CHANGE-CONSCIOUS SCENTS
With Time magazine announcing Greta Thunberg as its Person of the Year 2019 and climate change being on our minds more than ever before, it’s no surprise that planet-friendly perfumes will boom for 2020. Cue sustainable scents, which take care of our environment, too. Kierin NYC Santal Sky, blending saffron and sandalwood, is 100% recyclable, while Guerlain produces perfumes with sustainability at their core, reducing their carbon footprint from factory to store.
A returning trend that’ll become even more mainstream for 2020 is gender-fluid fragrances. Versatile and uplifting, these are perfectly on trend for the New Year. Go for The Perfume Edit’s sensual and warm Peppered Earth (the notes of pink pepper and leather should do the trick) or the new Gucci Mémoire d’Une Odeur, which oozes jasmine petals and chamomile – and has Harry Styles as its face. Watch out for unisex scents on the 2020 perfume trends hotlist.
This has been the year of fragrance gadgets, which will continue into 2020. Get excited for even more innovations to come because, trust us, you’ve not seen anything yet! We’ve had the YSL Black Opium Click Shine On perfume pen and Mugler Angel and Alien perfuming brushes. We saw the launch of Armani Si Perfume Powder (just wow), providing an innovative and simple way of applying fragrance, just like makeup. One thing’s for sure… solid fragrances are going to be the hip, hassle-free and practical way of applying your scent in 2020.
Self-care is massive for 2020, and leading a healthier lifestyle focused on YOU is going to be the way forward. Choose mood-boosting scents, which help calm, relax and revive your senses. For an instant pick-me-up, look out for soft, refreshing ingredients such as orange blossom, aquatic accords, citrus fruits, jasmine and rose. We’re loving Lancôme Idole For Her, with its radiant blend of rose essence, rose water and jasmine, and Issey Miyake Wood & Wood For Him, which is a power duo of grapefruit and patchouli.
Let’s be honest, some fragrance trends can be a little wacky. Did you hear about the scented Fendi bag, for example? The new statement bag is made of perfumed leather and – boy oh boy – are we fans! So yes, now even your bag can smell as good as you do (this one’s a mix of leather and musk), which is why we’re predicting more brands are going to jump on the bandwagon. What could be next? Perfumed phone cases? Scented nail polish? Yes, please! We can’t wait to see where this 2020 perfume trend leads.
