Here’s a sneak peek at the hottest perfume trends for 2019

Words: Lauren Carbran

It’s time to see the trends that are about to take over – and to find out which one is made for you...

2019 perfume trends will see deeper, darker foodie scents in the limelight. Love the thought of smelling like salted caramel, cinnamon and chocolate? Scents with these notes will be more popular than ever. If you’ve got black-tie events in the diary, intense gourmand scents will get heads turning.

Editor says: ‘I LOVE gourmands and and as they're one of the most popular perfume families, it’s only right that they have their moment next year. We’re going to see more and more scents launching with delicious food ingredients (only for smelling, obviously), like Carolina Herrera Good Girl with cocoa and almond accords. Look out for liquorice, cocoa and black coffee in particular, which smell sensual and bold on your skin. Gourmands tend to create a trail, too, so you’ll be noticed wherever you are. Are you confident? This trend is for you.'

Glitter bottles are back (we’ve never stopped loving them) and will add a touch of luxury to your fragrance wardrobe. Expect glittery party scents and everyday options – what better way to treat yourself? Keep your eyes peeled for glitter scents and have no regrets.

Editor says: ‘Nothing beats a glitter bottle, don’t you agree? Just looking at my favourite one at the moment, Michael Kors Twilight Shimmer, on my dressing table makes me happy. And there’s a lot more sparkle to come next year. I couldn’t be more excited to add it to my collection.’

Spring 2019 will be no different from other springs. Why? Sweet floral fragrances are back and bigger than ever. They’re ideal for wearing to garden parties (even though it’s hard to think that far ahead) and to have in your handbag when you need to freshen up, with their notes of lily of the valley, freesia and orange blossom, which will become your new best friends.

Editor says: ‘For me, florals aren’t just a spring perfume trend – they’re all year round (I love Givenchy L'Interdit at the moment). But, as ever, they become increasingly popular when winter ends. They’re energising, sweet and super-feminine. Watch out for some show-stoppers in 2019 – one of them may even become your new signature scent.’
