Words: Emily Venables
An EDT is an abbreviation of eau de toilette. But have you ever wondered why some perfumes have more than one version for you to choose from, such as an EDP? Well, wonder no more! We're here to demystify these terms and make your next shopping trip that much easier.
Firstly, what are my options?
When shopping for a fragrance, you will find several choices available to you:
- Eau de Cologne
- Eau de Toilette
- Eau de Parfum
The main difference between them all is the amount of essential oil used. The higher the concentration, the stronger the scent usually is and the price will also increase. An EDT will have around 10% essential oil content where a EDC will have less and an EDP will have more. That makes an EDT your happy medium choice!
What else do I need to know about an EDT?
EDTs are often lighter than an EDP, making it an ideal addition to your beauty routine for work, a job interview or even a date. If you want to wear your EDT all day, you may find you have to top it up throughout the day, but with a lower price point than what you would pay for an EDP, you won’t mind a few extra sprays here and there to enjoy your favourite scent!
If you found yourself asking ‘why has it been named 'toilette'?, you're certainly not the first! The name 'Eau de Toilette' apparently pre-dates our current use for the word 'toilet' and it originally meant 'personal grooming' - which makes sense!
At The Perfume Shop, you’ll find plenty of EDT options across our wide range of brands. Here are just a few light, fresh scents to pique your interest…
