Welcome to the next stop of our ‘Around the world’ series - Russia, the country that doesn’t do things by half! As the largest country in the world it spans across 11 times zones, borders with 14 countries and has a population of over 145 million people! This fascinating country may not be best known for Russian perfume, but there are certainly scents to match their unique cities and traditions! Let’s get going…
Stand out from the crowd
It’s no surprise that with a population of over 145 million that their capital city, Moscow, is the most populated city in all of Europe! A key global city, it is famed for its historical and architectural monuments, love of vodka and adverse weather conditions! In a city so popular with tourists and residents alike, you need to scent to make you stand out from the crowd. Try Boss Oud – a powerful and opulent sent, with rich notes that simply command attention. We couldn’t think of anything better suited!
Marvel at the architecture
Every year millions of visitors descend upon Moscow and Saint Petersburg to view some of Europe’s most outstanding buildings. Iconic locations include the Red Square, St. Basil’s Cathedral and the Kremlin, which despite its political history, is incredibly beautiful! For a perfume to match the stature of architecture in Russia, opt for Shamilar by Guerlain which has a rich history of changing bottle designs itself and Guerlain was the official perfume supplier of the Russian Imperial Court from the 1900s!
Say it with (odd) flowers
If you wonder the streets of Moscow, St. Petersburg or Tula you may be surprised to see the abundance of flower shops. Its very common to give flowers as a gift in Russia, for any occasion, but make sure that your bunch has an odd number in it. Many Russians believe that flowers presented in even numbers may inflict woes (and even death) to the recipient! If real flowers aren’t your thing but you’re all about floral scents, then the white floral bouquets featured in Narciso by Narciso Rodriguez will be for you.
Not just a concrete jungle
When you picture Russia, most people will envision snow covered towns, dense traffic and highly populated tourist spots – but did you know that Russia actually has a very diverse landscape? Nearly half of it is covered in forest, it has no less than 12 volcanoes, and you will also find the world’s deepest lake here which contains 20% of the world’s fresh water! If you’re willing to immerse yourself into Russia’s natural surroundings, then you’ll need a fragrance that’s rich woody aromas and aquatic properties - say hello to Acqua di Gio Profumo by Armani.
Feel the freeze
In the remote Russian region of Yakutia, you will find the world’s coldest village – Oymyakon. Here, the residents are no stranger to freezing temperatures and children routinely go to school in minus 40 degrees! The lowest ever temperature was recorded at a slightly chilly minus 68C! We reckon that a town covered in icicles will need any help they can in turning up the heat, so we’ll be packing Dior Fahrenheit if we ever visit!
An adrenaline junkie’s dream
If your ideal holiday is somewhere where you can get your heart racing, then Russia has got you covered. From diving in sub-zero waters to hang-gliding through mountainous landscapes – Russia will treat you to an unforgettable experience! With these intense activities you need a scent to match. So, when you’re getting ready to jump, dive, fall or swim a few sprays of Dolce & Gabanna’s One Intense will see you through the nerves.
