Thinking about your New Year’s resolutions? Well, there’s something you beauty buffs might want to include. Make 2020 the year you switch up your fragrance habits with these New Year perfume resolutions. You’ll have no regrets, we promise…
OPT FOR A SUSTAINABLE BRAND
In keeping with the clean beauty boom of 2019, you’ll want to support eco-friendly, sustainable brands as your New Year’s resolution. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that sustainable perfumes have been big news this year. When creating Montblanc Explorer, for example, three perfumers travelled around the world to source local ingredients, including bergamot from Italy, vetiver from Haiti and patchouli from the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. Even better, three libraries for school children were constructed on Sulawesi, providing 489 school children and their 33 teachers with easier access to reading and education. Fragrance giant Guerlain aims to reduce its carbon footprint in every step of the perfume process. Have you tried Guerlain Mon Guerlain Intense? It’s an ultra-feminine blend of lavender, vanilla and sandalwood that should be in the running for your 2020 sustainable signature scent.
RECYCLE YOUR FRAGRANCE BOTTLES
It may not be your top priority but recycling your fragrance bottles has a greater impact on the environment than you think. That’s because when we recycle bottles, we help reduce the harmful gasses released from rubbish sites and save on the high amounts of energy needed to produce raw materials. So, make buying one of the following fragrances your New Year’s resolution – The Perfume Edit Citrus Fresco (sweet lemon, lavender and rosemary – lush) or Kierin NYC Santal Sky (saffron, sandalwood and vetiver). Even better, when you take your empty perfume bottles into a The Perfume Shop store near you, you'll get 10% off the next scent you buy in store on the same day.
CHOOSE A PERFUME GADGET
Perfume gadgets are a must for 2020. Why? Well, they were trending in 2019, but 2020 is all about next-level spritzing. Not only do they save time when you’re on the go, but they’re also super-easy to use. We’re obsessed with Armani Si Perfume Powder, a solid powdered scent that you apply in circular motions on your wrists or neck – and it smells just like the original scent, with blackcurrant liqueur, rose and freesia. Or check out the YSL Black Opium Click Shine On pen, an innovative way of applying your scent by swiping the gel onto your skin (no spray necessary). Ladies, spread the word – fragrance gadgets should be on everyone’s travelling checklist.
The unisex fragrance trend isn’t going anywhere for 2020. So, what’s the lowdown? Gender-neutral scents are quickly becoming the new mainstream, with brands such as Calvin Klein, Kierin NYC and Gucci jumping on the bandwagon – hey, even the Shawn Mendes fragrance, Signature, is for him and her. Go unisex and never look back with the new Gucci Mémoire d’Une Odeur, an airy, musky blend of chamomile, jasmine petals, bitter almond and sandalwood. This is a New Year’s resolution that you’ll want to stick to all year.
