3 dry skin survival tips for winter

Winter can wreak havoc on our bodies leaving us with irritating dry skin.  A combination of  cold air, blustery conditions and high, artificial heat indoors can zap the moisture out your skin quicker than it takes to get through a rendition of 'winter wonderland!'.

There are simple ways in which you can combat dry skin throughout the colder months, and beyond, and The Perfume Shop have all you need to restore the moisture balance in your skin, with the added benefit that all our products smell incredible, too!

1. Gently exfoliate

Skin cells dehydrate in the colder months and can lead to dry, itchy and flaky skin. Regular (about twice a week) exfoliation will help remove dead skin cells and make way for healthy, new cell growth.  Dead skin cells will also hinder the work of any other products you use to restore moisture in your skin, so gently buff them away using an exfoliating product to maximise the benefits when you apply a moisturiser.

2. Moisturise, moisturise and moisturise some more

Your skin is your body’s first line of defence when it’s protecting you from the elements.  When it becomes dry, it’s not able to do this as effectively. Moisturise your skin as regularly as you can, from top to toe, and especially after you’ve showered or bathed, as damp skin helps seal in moisture to your skin.

 

Remember, layering scents starts in the shower too! If you use a scented body wash or body lotion, then you're already on your way to successful layering of fragrances.  This will ensure the scent will last on your skin longer throughout the day, but be careful to match your perfume/ aftershave to your fragranced skin care to achieve a winning combination not a mismatch of smells!

3. Turn down the heat

Jumping into a hot bath in the winter months may sound like your idea of heaven (and ours, to be honest!), but really hot water can dry out the skin even more… boo! Instead, indulge in a bath from time to time but when you can opt for lukewarm water to avoid stripping your skin of essential oils.
