As a new intense version of the iconic Mon Guerlain perfume launches, we take a closer look at the fragrance and its very famous face…
1. Angelina embodies all things Mon Guerlain
Angelina has fronted Mon Guerlain perfumes since the original sashayed onto the scent scene in 2017. And for good reason, too. With the fragrance inspired by ‘the notes of a woman’ and ‘the choices, emotions and dreams that embody modern femininity’, strong, free-spirited Angelina made the perfect muse.
Since Mon Guerlain’s debut, the star has represented the fragrance in all its incarnations, including Mon Guerlain Bloom of Rose, Mon Guerlain Florale and now the dazzling Mon Guerlain Eau de Parfum Intense.
Yet again, Angelina’s a spot-on fit for the latest launch, which has been inspired and created for ‘women who are comfortable in their own skin, who follow their own path, and who embrace all the different aspects of femininity: their strength and their softness, their resilience and their loving nature’.
2. The Mon Guerlain Intense campaign was filmed at Angelina’s charity foundation HQ in Cambodia
The film for the original Mon Guerlain perfume was shot at Angelina’s family home in Provence, where the lavender Guerlain uses is grown and harvested. The shoot location for Mon Guerlain Intense? Another spot close to Angelina’s heart – her home in the tropical forest surroundings of remote north-western Cambodia. It’s also the location of the foundation Angelina has run for 18 years in the name of her Cambodian-born son Maddox.
The foundation is dedicated to alleviating extreme poverty, protecting the environment and conserving wildlife in the area. Its work, including the clearance of landmines, has helped make the area safer for local communities affected by war in particular.
3. Angelina’s love of Guerlain started as a child
The star has long held an affinity with the French powerhouse brand. Her connection started in childhood, and she has precious memories of her late mother and actress Marcheline Bertrand using a Guerlain powder. Angelina has previously said that Guerlain – one of the oldest perfume houses in the world – ‘spoke’ to her, as it did her mother.
4. The new Mon Guerlain Intense uses a special kind of vanilla
All the variations of Mon Guerlain play with soft sensual vanilla, but Mon Guerlain Intense takes things to the next level. Along with lavender, patchouli and sandalwood, the note is amplified and given an addictive intensity, enveloping you from the first spritz. The secret? A special vanilla tincture, processed using an ancient technique beloved of Guerlain.
One of the last fragrance houses in the world to continue using the method, it incorporates vanilla pods that are prepared, treated, cut into small pieces and soaked in alcohol before filtering them in a unique way. The result? An aroma that brings out the very best of the vanilla pod.
